EMT
Emergency Medical Technician: This certification is the entry-level to the prehospital field. Required certifications include:
AEMT
Advanced Emergency Medical Technician: This certification is an optional mid-level certification available after attaining original certification as an EMT. AEMTs are able to perform advanced procedures such as IVs, Endotracheal Intubation, and medication administration. Required certifications include:
PARAMEDIC
Paramedic: This certification is attained after attaining original certification as an EMT and then successfully completing a 1 – 2 year Paramedic program. Paramedics are able to provide full advanced life support treatment including, but not limited to, Cardiac Monitoring, Cardioversion, and Medications. Required certifications include:
CCEMT-P
Critical Care Paramedic: This is an optional credential available to experienced Paramedics who complete additional post-Paramedic training on critical care and interfacility transport. Critical Care Paramedics are expected to be able to interpret lab results, interpret radiographic findings, operate ventilators and infusion pumps, and have additional training in medication administered in the critical care environment.
